Holiday 8-ply (100% pure new wool, 50 g). Colour: lime, 3 balls. Colour: bright pink, 1 ball.

Needles:
One pair 4 mm straight
One pair 3.25 mm straight
One 4 mm crochet hook
Needle for sewing up

Tension:
22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm on larger needles.

Finished dimensions:
25 cm x 20 cm.

Front panel

Using 4 mm needles cast on 46 stitches. Working in stocking stitch, inc one stitch at each end of knit rows until there are 58 st. Continue in st st until piece measures 20 cm from beginning, ending with a purl row. Using 3.25 mm needles, knit 6 rows garter stitch. Cast off.

Back panel/flap

Work as for front until piece measure 25 cm from beginning. Work 6 rows stocking stitch, dec one stitch at each end of knit rows. Work 6 rows garter stitch, dec one stitch at each end of next and alt rows. Cast off.

Putting it all together

Gusset and handle (worked as one piece)

Using 4 mm needles, cast on 18 stitches. Work in stocking stitch until piece measures 12 cm from beginning. Continuing in st st, dec one stitch at each end of next row and every 8th row until 10 stitches remain. Continue in st st until piece measures 120 cm from beginning, ending with a purl row. Inc at each end of next row and every 8th row until there are 18 stitches. Work even for 12 cm from last inc.

Crochet flowers (make 3)

Using 4 mm crochet hook make 6 ch.
Sl st in 1st ch to form a loop.
*3ch, 2tr into loop, 3ch, dc into loop.
Repeat from * 4 times. Fasten off, leaving a long tail of yarn for stitching onto bag.

Finishing

Gently press each piece using a steam iron over a towel. Using backstitch, seam wide ends of gusset together. Blanket stitch around all edges in pink. Stitch front panel to the gusset using slip stitch through the blanket stitch loops. Match centre of bottom with the gusset seam. Stitch back panel to the gusset, matching with front panel and keeping the flap free. Stitch on the crochet flowers as desired.
